It's no longer news that the Kempes Led OOU Students' Union Government will soon come to an end as several potential aspirants have began consultations and other politicking ahead of the forthcoming union elections.

Reliable sources who spoke to Campus Mirror said that the University Management has set August 10 as the dissolution date for the current administration. This would pave way for the constitution of an electoral committee who will spearhead the affairs of the union election.

Meanwhile, Campus Mirror has gathered that the various leaders of the SUG have started making efforts to get a good share of about 6 million naira second disbursement funds which the University Management is about to release to the union.

It would be recalled that Campus Mirror reported few weeks ago that the union executives had presented a Budget totaling N40 Million to the senate for approval. This budget is expected to be scrutinised and streamlined based on the number of feasible projects and available funds.

The union which comprises of three (3) arms, including the Central Executive Council (CEC), Student's House of Senate (SHS) and the Judiciary are all entitled to a share of every disbursement released to the union.

However, bearing in mind that this is the second and last disbursement that will be released to the Kempes led administration, various officials have started making efforts to get their own share cut.

An SUG official who spoke to Campus Mirror on condition of anonymity explained that many executives who were not on good terms with the President have started reconciliation efforts so as to enjoy favour from the President when the union funds is being disbursed.

"You know this is the last and highest disbursement the union will get. The first disbursement was less than 3 million so we couldn't do much with that. This is only opportunity for union to get funds to execute their projects. And this money will be shared between the executive, senate and the Judiciary. Everyone wants to get something enough for him or her.", the source said.

It is unclear the sharing formula of the union disbursement. However, Campus Mirror understands that the highest percentage will be taken by the President while other executives will get their share based on the amount approved by the Senate.

Efforts to reach the SUG Senate President, Dist. Sen. Olanrewaju Samuel to comment on the development was futile as he hurriedly ended the call and switched off his phone when he realized he was on call with a Campus Mirror Reporter.
