Mohamed Bangura, All People's Congress (APC) Stalwart and Sierra Leone's former Minister of Information and Communication has rubbished corrupt allegations levied against him.
Bangura who is currently facing the Commissions of Inquiry is alleged to have received various sum of money including, US$100,000; US$50,306, US$44,000, and Le20,000,000, from various public officials during his tenure as minister.
The former minister is also being prosecuted for allegedly receiving the sum of US$44,000 from the Financial Director of NATCOM Foday Conteh, the sum of US$100,000 and as well as US$50,306 in respect of NATCOM’s International Gateway Funds through the former Permanent Secretary Paul Sandy, and also the sum of Le20 million from the accountant of SALCAB Mustapha Sillah, as a farewell token during his departure as minister.
When presented before the court yesterday, Monday September 2, 2019, Bangura denied the entirety of the allegations at the Justice Bankole Thompson Commission of Inquiry.
According to the Former Minister, he never received any of the said amount from the former permanent secretary of the Ministry of Information. He also said that he did not receive any amount of money from the director of NATCOM nor did he at any point in time make any call for the disbursement of the alleged amount.
For Bangura, if the COI witnesses must prove him guilty, "they must provide certain concrete documental evidences in order to substantiate their allegations [against him]"
Meanwhile, the former minister also denied that he did not receive any farewell token from the former accountant of SALCAB, adding it is not a usual practice or policy for ministers to ask for a farewell token, citing that he will never entertain such practice.
